Vinayak (Vinnie) Bapat joined Seth G.S. Medical School & King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, Mumbai in 1988, where he completed medical school, 3 years of residency in general and then 3 years of residency in cardio-thoracic surgery. He was awarded Fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCS.Ed) in 1998 and then went to the prestigious Toronto General Hospital, Canada for fellowship in advance heart surgery in 1999.

Vinnie pursued his career in London, UK at the prestigious Guys and St. Thomas' hospital, where he was appointed as a consultant in 2007 with special interest in aortic surgery. He was one of the two surgeons specialising in the complex valve surgery domain including infective endocarditis and reoperations, as well as one of the three surgeons specialising in aortic dissection service, which was the second largest service in UK. In St. Thomas' Hospital he was the lead for the minimally invasive (key-hole) aortic valve replacement programme (MIS) and use of sutureless valves.

Vinnie has been involved in early feasibility study of the Transcatheter mitral valve implantation and performed the first-in-man implant of Edward's FORTIS device in February 2014 and Medtronic's Intrepid device in 2015. He has a large research and innovation programme to help advance the field and has over 100 publications. Vinnie is an invited faculty for all major cardiology and cardiac surgical meeting. He serves as a committee member for Techno-College, which is the largest surgical innovation meeting and minimally invasive aortic valve tract for the European Association of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery. Vinnie has recently moved to the Prestigious New York Presbytarian Hospital and Columbia University Medical Centre, New York and has joined the heart valve team as Surgical Director for the advance valve therapies.
