General Information
Climate
The dry season is the best time for travel to Darwin. It lasts from April/May until September/October and brings beautiful weather in Darwin with clear blue skies, balmy nights and warm days. (If you look a bit closer you will find that especially the beginning and the end of the dry season can be quite hot.)
Passport and Visas
As a general guide, travellers are encouraged to apply for their Australian visa well in advance of their planned departure date. European passport holders can apply for a visa online through the Australian Government's eVisitor system. Passport holders from a range of other countries (including the United States of America) can apply for a visa online through the Australian Government's Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) system. Alternatively, passport holders outside of Australia can apply for an ETA through a travel agent, airline office, specialist service provider or Australian visa office. (NB: The eVisitor and ETA systems provide the electronic equivalent of a visa for the short-term traveller which replaces the traditional passport visa label or stamp. Most applications are processed instantly.)
Transport
Darwin International Airport is located 13 kilometers from the CBD (around a 15 minute drive). For satellite naviga- tion devices, Darwin International Airport is located in Marrara, Northern Territory. Most routes in Darwin and its surrounds have traffic indicator signs directing to the Airport. Follow these symbols for the most direct route to the airport.
