Associate Professor Joe Bavaria is currently the Vice-Chief, Division of Cardiovascular Surgery and the Brooke Roberts - William Maul Measey Professor of Surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He is the Director of the Thoracic Aortic Surgery Program at a PENN which is a multidisciplinary program encompassing all aspects of aortic disease including thoracic aortic reconstruction.
His primary interests include thoracic aortic surgery and more broadly, cardio-aortic surgery. Associate Professor Bavaria's thoracic aortic surgery program at the University of Pennsylvania presently performs over 400 reconstructive procedures a year and manages over 2,500 patients a year in the Thoracic Aortic Diseases Clinic.
Professor Tirone David is a Professor of Surgery at the University of Toronto, Chief of Cardiac Surgery at Toronto General Hospital, and the holder of the Melanie Munk Chair at the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre.
He was President of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery in 2004-2005. Professor David is a member of numerous surgical and medical societies and honorary member of the European Cardio-Thoracic Association, the Brazilian Cardiovascular Society, the Italian Society for Cardiac Surgery. Professor David has developed numerous operative procedures to treat patients with heart valve disease, complications of myocardial infarction, and thoracic aneurysms, and has been a member of the editorial board of several medical journals.
Professor Ruggero De Paulis is the Director and Chief of Cardiac Surgery at the European Hospital in Rome. He was staff surgeon and Associate Professor at the Tor Vergata University of Rome. Areas of interest include Left ventricular assist device - Artificial Heart, Stentless valve prosthesis, Small aortic root, Minimally invasive coronary artery bypass surgery, Aortic surgery & Aortic valve sparing operations.
Professor De Paulis has won numerous awards including the National Congress Award Prize for the best original work presentation, Paris, France. He is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the International Society for Heart Lung Transplantation & the American Society for Artificial Internal Organs.
Professor Roberto Di Bartolomeo is currently the Director of the Cardiac Surgery Unit at the Cardiovascular Department of the Alma Mater - University of Bologna. He has written 260 scientific publications in national and international journals.
Professor Di Bartolomeo's specialty interests include Surgical treatment of thoracic and cardiovascular diseases, mitral and aortic valve repair, minimally invasive valve surgery, thoracic aneurysms, homografts, use of alternative conduits in coronary artery surgery. He is an adviser of both the Italian Society of Cardiac Surgery and the Cardiac Surgery University College and is currently a member of the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery.
Professor Gebrome El Khoury is head of the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at St-Luc Hospital with Membership to the Belgian, French and European Association for Cardiothoracic Surgery to name a few. He specialises in Adult Cardiac Surgery, General Thoracic Surgery and Peripheral Vascular Surgery.
Professor El Khoury's interest included valve reconstruction and repair, aortic root reconstruction (remodelling), ao.valve: ross; homograft; stentless, aortic dissection I (remodelling), mitral repair (carpentier technics, gore tex neo chordaes), mitral homograft and arterial evascularisation(ITA,GEA,sequential...)
Professor Safi is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at the University of Texas Medical School, Chief of the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery Service at Memorial Hermann Hospital, and Medical Director of CV Surgery at the Memorial Hermann Heart and Vascular Institute.
He received his medical degree from Baghdad University Medical College in Iraq, and subsequently received his surgical training in Baghdad, London and Houston, Texas, where he spent a decade with Dr E. Stanley Crawford. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery with subspecialty board certification in Cardiothoracic Surgery and Vascular Surgery. Professor Safi is internationally recognized for his expertise in complex aortic surgery.
