2009 Australian Hand Surgery Society Annual Scientific Meeting
Welcome Message
I would like to welcome all members of the Australian Hand Surgery Society and their partners and guests to come to Victoria for the 2009 AHSS Annual Scientific Meeting, to be held this year at Peppers Moonah Links Resort on the Mornington Peninsula.
We have a world leader in wrist surgery as our guest professor in Marc Garcia Elias, and I am hopeful that the local standard of papers will complement his presentations, which will include the Inaugural Bernard O’Brien Oration. The resort has been the site of the Australian Golf Open in previous years, and there are three magnificent golf courses to choose from at the resort. The resort also lies in good proximity to many of the Peninsula wineries for the oenophiles in the group. The meeting is held during Melbourne Grand Prix week, and anyone interested in staying on can see the Grand Prix on the Sunday.
There are several innovations for the meeting this year. The first is a session of brief presentations of members on their NON-MEDICAL interests, whatever they may be, including artistic talents, sports skills, interesting trips, hobbies, or voluntary activities. There are no restrictions, and we can learn more about each other as people rather than researchers. The second is for the sports afternoon. The Golf will be on the famous “Legends Course” at Moonah Links. The Tennis competition will also be onsite. This year, due to the proximity to Port Phillip Bay, I would like to see up to 20 people come out for a fishing competition on a Charter that I have been on several times, and collects MANY varieties of fish at the heads. I would like to challenge members to enjoy the adventure! The last is because of the proximity to the Grand Prix. If enough people are interested, I would like to host a car rally on Saturday afternoon. Members may be keen to bring their vintage or special cars from interstate, and local cars (not so special!) can be arranged for those interested but carless. This is my home patch, and the questions you will be asked along the way will be challenging; suitable prizes are planned.
The meeting will be special; the social events will be special; so come and join us at the 2009 AHSS Meeting!
