Judith Cornell Oration

The Judith Cornell Oration serves as an occasion of celebration for the achievements of Australian perioperative nurses and allows for future visions to be shared. The Judith Cornell Orators are distinguished perioperative nurses who throughout their careers, have made a significant contribution to advancing perioperative nursing in Australia.

 

The ACORN Board is delighted that Menna Davies has agreed to present the Judith Cornell Oration.

Menna is Clinical Nurse Consultant, Operating Suite at The Prince of Wales/Sydney Children's Hospital. She completed her general training at Kings College Hospital, London and midwifery at Southampton General Hospital.

After migrating to Australia in 1976 she worked in the Operating Theatre, Mater Hospital, Brisbane before undertaking a Post Basic Operating Theatre Certificate at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney.

Menna worked as a Perioperative Nurse Educator at Westmead Hospital and in 1990 was seconded to The NSW College of Nursing to coordinate the first Post Graduate Perioperative Nursing Certificate program conducted by distance education.

She has been an active member of the NSW Operating Theatre Association for a number of years, including two terms as President.

Menna has represented NSW OTA on the ACORN Board on several occasions and was Conference Convenor for the ACORN Conference in Sydney, 1995 and wrote and directed the 2002 video, 'Scrubbing, Gowning and Gloving'.

She was also a member of ACORN Competency Working Party and inaugural recipient of the ACORN Excellence in Perioperative Nursing Award in 2004.

Menna has presented papers at a number of local, national and international conferences.

She is the co-editor and contributor to 'Perioperative Nursing: An Introductory Text'.

In 2011 Menna completed a Graduate Diploma in Health Law at University of Sydney.

Academic Dress is optional for the Judith Cornell Oration. ACORN Stoles are available for sale to members at $110 each. Please complete the purchase details section on the registration form. Stoles will be available for collection from the ACORN Stand in the exhibition area.

Gown Hire

Black Academic Gown hire for the Judith Cornell Oration is available at a cost of $60 per gown. Please complete the hire details section on the registration form. Gowns will be available for collection from the registration desk.
