Invitation
from the Conference Convenor
As your conference convenor I have the great honour of inviting you to join us at the 15th National Conference of the Australian College of Operating Room Nurses, to be held at the Darwin Convention Centre Northern Territory May 2012.
Within the health care system there are many boundaries that define how we as practitioners work within the many laws and regulations and cultural and spiritual boundaries that govern our practice. These can be widely diverse across our states and territories which provide multiple challenges for the delivery of safe and effective care. These challenges fostered the development of the theme for the 2012 conference "Territorial boundaries - Dare to be Diverse" which I am sure will inspire many of us to get our thinking caps on and look outside the square.
Perioperative nurses are very resourceful and by utilising their wealth of knowledge, develop many inventive ways to overcome these challenges we face. Our conference will showcase some of theses ideas and look at how we as practitioners work within these boundaries and the challenges they present.
Our Keynote Speakers include Brennon Dowrick Australia's most successful gymnast, Sam Cawthorn who has overcome many personal challenges and Graeme Bowman who will stimulate your mind and will be sure to motivate us all. Our speakers will cover many different topics that I am certain will be of interest to all. This time we have done something different and introduced the idea of Master Classes where our Partners in Health & Education will offer many different educational sessions and give practitioners hands on sessions to support practice. We are also lucky to have access to a laser course and other pre conference workshops as well. The Medline breakfast is also something not to be missed and you just don't know who you might meet.
The prestigious Judith Cornell Oration will be held on Wednesday afternoon honouring a Perioperative Nurse who has made an outstanding contribution to Perioperative Nursing in Australia. Following the investiture of the new Fellows to the college there will be the official opening of the Partners in Health & Education Precinct and our traditional Cocktail Party. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Partners in Health & Education who have graciously supported our Conference and our major sponsors who have helped to make this conference possible.
The conference dinner will be held at Skycity where we can watch the famous Northern Territory sunset and then enjoy a wonderful night of fun and entertainment. I am pleased to announce the dinner theme for 2012 will be "Priscilla Queen of the Desert" which I am certain will fit in well with our theme and be a wonderful opportunity to catch up with all. I look forward to seeing the glitter and glam our delegates and Partners in Health & Education will be wearing.
So start getting yourself ready and come and learn what your colleagues have been doing and get ready for having heaps of fun in one of Australia's most picturesque places to visit.
